For winter and weather impacted practices, we row on machines out of our clubhouse located just a few miles from Crosswinds!

  • JLRC is comprised of athletes ages 13-18. Anyone can join regardless of rowing experience. We teach everything a rower needs to know.

The only prerequisite is rowers must be able to swim.

  • Yes, it can be. We are one team with both a recreational rowing group and a competitive group. The competitive athletes train 4-5 days/ week and row in races and regattas. The recreational athletes join practices with our competitive team on Fridays and Saturdays.

  • During the fall and spring seasons, we typically practice four days per week on Jordan Lake launching out of Crosswinds Boating Center. During the winter season, we practice near Jordan Lake at our private indoor location which we affectionately call “The Clubhouse.” Practice times and days of the week vary by season.

  • Rowing is an expensive sport, and we do our best to make it accessible to all. We actively raise funds and do all we can to work out payment plans if needed. We do not want cost to prevent an athlete from rowing with our community, and still our non-profit must equitably share costs across our community.

Overall, for competitive teammates, Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer programming will cost approximately $2500/ athlete and $1250/coxswain. For our recreational teammates, their Fall, Winter, Spring programming will total to approximately $1700/year. New members joining the team pay a $100 administrative fee.

Our fees cover the expenses to run the club including insurance, coaching salaries, and rent at both the marina and the Clubhouse as well as equipment repairs and upgrades when needed. Fees are non-refundable.

All athletes must also be members of US Rowing. This involves paying an annual US Rowing membership fee (in recent years this fee has been $25).

In addition, athletes attending a regatta must pay a separate fee for each weekend of racing. Regatta fees vary depending on the location, number of team members attending, number of boat entries, etc. These fees are determined prior to registration for each regatta. Regatta fees cover truck rental, gas, regatta entry fees, food costs, etc. Families usually stay at affordable hotels or camp together.

  • It can be! You can row fall, winter, and spring with JLRC. Summer is our time for camps, and our teammates help encourage new rowers to learn this awesome sport!

We do welcome teammates who play other sports in one or more of our seasons - rowing does not have to be your total passion, we can be a piece of your total picture. So, you can do a recreational team while playing other sports, and/or you can do a season of competitive rowing and then enjoy your other sport in another season.

  • We are committed to the safety our our community. All participants must pass a swim test before getting on the water with us. We have a motorboat that accompanies the rowing boats on the water. We follow the guidelines from US Rowing, including Safe Sport practices.
